anticipation, you’re face-picking, pacing
paper-chasing a fake carrot on a string
(attenuate) and you wait til the aching has faded
until you can’t feel a thing
but that’s the thing…
you still do
i cannot believe we’re even still conscious
self-destruction, you’re hustling for nothing
ain’t it just like a vein gushing until it’s fucking dry?
(ain’t it crushing?) when you realize the deal they been cutting
do you feel like they’re leaving you out here to fucking die?
i do, i do, i do
yeah we do what we got to
i cannot believe we’re even still conscious
born & raised & forced to behave
& subject to suffering in similar ways
i am fucking amazed we’re even still conscious
at this age reminded me of the naive optimism of high school. dent is more like the college student who tries to remain optimistic in the face of a world that contradicts itself at every turn. fartintheelevator
Took a few listens to catch me but when it did, whew. Takes me back to the days of 90s emo but with lyricism that goes so far beyond. The breadth of musical styles on display, the breadth of subjects covered, adds up to a towering, humanistic work. Few bands can be so hook-averse yet so packed with creativity, and there's at least one vocal moment on every single track that blows me away. I can't imagine this not winding up being the best punk album of '21. PaintedDogs
